15 Park Avenue

Just the other day I was reading a blog by a friend on 'Rape' and it reminded me of the movie 15 Park Avenue. The movie was not interesting... It was never intended to be... But there was something in that which kept you glued to your seat... It was slow paced with no events happenning... But while watchin it, you will feel something is soon going to happen...

Konkana Sen, of whom i became a fan after watchin Page 3, acted superbly, nah this word wil undermine her effort... she portrayed the character very efficiently... A girl who did things only to make her lover happy was raped by few goons... she went to cover news and what she got in return... for what.. just to establish supremacy... of man over woman... what kind of tactics are these... while watching the movie, i was feeling ashamed of being a man... is this how we are supposed to show supremacy... i felt that this is the job of a coward who cant beat a woman in the game... in life... will forcefully having sex puts us higher? Why dont we understand it ruins the life... not one... not 2... but many lives... In the movie, other than Konkana, her mother.. her fiance... her sister... all were affected... her life was tattered... she just kept thinkin of her life had she wud have been married... she kept of thinkin of kids she wud have had... movie portrayed brilliantly what could happen... it also showed how a man reacts when he gets to know that her loved one was raped... Rahul Bose just left her to fend for herself... instead of supporting her to overcome trauma, he just ran away from responsibilities... he was more guilty than the rapists...

my frend felt that the movie ended abruptly... she just got lost... and her family kept looking for her... he was cursing the director... but I feel that we need to come out of age where movie has a happy ending... we should understand that such stories never have any ending... it just goes on... how can there be an ending... it just want to make you ponder... and makes you think... The movie left an lasting impression on me... hope we soon have a age where it will be safer for woman to venture out freely without worrying about so-called male supremacy.... :-/

  1. You think very nicely jax. Many times I have also brooded on what can be the sadism which can make a man rape a person. Some say circumstances do it. Some say ego does that. Some say that it is a mere addiction. Some people actually have the tremendous vanity which makes them feel that every smile they receive from a girl is an invitation. You might be surprised but I have seen this in an "educated and civilised" society.

I have not seen 15 Park Avenue. But your blog has definitely made me want to see it.

Well, dont feel sad about being a man. Be proud that you are a man who knows where not to use your strength.

Just one more thought... I have read somewhere that in India atleast 85% of ladies are raped by their husbands, after marriage. What would you say about that?? It does not ruin anything except a minor part of feminine ego. What can a lady do in such a case? As a man, what would you say?? What should she do??

  2. D,
I dont have any data but I agree with you... not with numbers but with such cases... i wil only say dat a woman shud bcome self reliant n shud not b dependant on man... n education is only medium, which sadly is a premium for village girls...

  3. Thanks for the blog Jax i would see the movie. But as of u said its not mere man who can create better secured society but also women. there are many brothels which run by women what do u say for that? Being man is gift for us to show our strengths and try making our society better. And for D i like to make a point that... Is that u say husband forces his wife for sex? what does that mean b/t husband and wife? there may be case where brutal ppl may act violent on their wives but I don't think that shld be made as a point here.

  4. anil,
d debate wil go enlessly without a solution... but yeah, both man and woman have to play an active part...
nd Rape means - 'The crime of forcing a woman to submit to sexual intercourse against her will'
    so D's point seems valid...

  5. i havent seen the movie.. but amazing writeup...also the conclusions...Bottom line is to respect the other persons needs/wants irrespective of who's the weaker sect...the world wud be a much better place..This is just not limited to females.. abuse goes a long way..child abuse, labour abuse and so on...Tormenting someone below you does not prove that you are powerful..It only proves you are weaker than the,, to target them..
